Anjali is a junior from Austin, Texas who aspires to use art as a conduit for advocacy. When she isn’t reading, she loves to film with her friends and to play fantasy video games. She admires the humanities, and in the future wants to study philosophy, the politics and history of space exploration, or medieval linguistics. Her favorite authors are Susanna Clarke, Clarice Lispector, Tanith Lee, Toni Morrison, and Isabella Hammad.

Cleo is a high school junior from Austin, Texas, who is usually found creating paintings, drawings, and digital works (usually portraiture and landscapes). When she’s not drawing, she’s usually reading, listening to and playing music on her piano, or singing. She’s inspired by artists like Sam Yang and Edward Hopper, but she especially obsesses over AURORA. She’s passionate about her love for art, the environment, and the natural world!

Katara (she/her) is a 16-year-old junior from Austin, Texas, with a love for reading, typography (especially calligraphy) and photography. When she isn’t immersed in a book, she’s usually rock climbing competitively or exploring the outdoors. A science enthusiast, she has a particular passion for biology, fueled by her deep appreciation for animals and the natural world. She finds inspiration in the works of authors Alan Gratz and Markus Zusak.

Emery (any/all) is a high school junior from Austin, Texas. You can usually find her in her bedroom watching tv, reading a book, or writing while listening to music. She loves to talk about their interests and hopes to explore new ways of creating like collage, stop-motion, and baking.

Olivia is a high school junior from Austin, Texas who loves to be around animals and listen to music. Her favorite artists include Blood Orange and PinkPantheress. Her favorite books are Girl in Pieces and Animal Farm.

Max (any/all) is a sixteen year old from Austin, Texas. Their interests include live music, nature, and creating art of all kinds. Max is inspired by authors like Maggie Thrash and Mona Awad as well as artists like John Baldessari. Max’s biggest goal is to create as much art as they consume.

Lukas is a high school sophomore at Headwaters School who is usually found rowing on Lake Travis or out camping around Texas. He loves photography, planes, and listening to audio books. When not doing these things he is taking flying lessons, or playing video games.

In 1982, I earned 2nd place in Mendenhall Elementary’s spelling bee (lost on the word galactic) and snagged a blue ribbon in a field day foot race the next year. However, the prizes I am most proud of from that time in my life are a perfect attendance certificate and the almost life-size John Travolta coloring book I received on my 10th birthday. Now, I channel that same quirky devotion into my work at Headwaters, where I teach HS English and Theory of Knowledge, advise Extended Essays, and support students as a sponsor of the Merit Council and Bibelot.
